Starting a bookshop….?

My favorite book on bookselling : Rebel Bookseller – How to Improvise your own indie store and beat back the chains. Mainly deals with new shops but there was plenty of first hand knowledge from writer Andrew Laties. This book came out in 2005 the year I started the shop and I go back to it all the time. I think his ideas can be applied to anyone wanting to run a business.

2011 calendars starting to arrive.

Emily Carr (Canadian, 1871–1945), considered the premier painter of Canada’s Pacific Coast, focused her work on the British Columbia wilderness and the cultural artifacts of the First Nations people. After training in San Francisco and Europe, Carr began painting in Vancouver; years later, at age fifty-six, she returned to northern British Columbia and began producing the works for which she is best known. The twelve paintings in this calendar offer a wide-ranging overview of this extraordinary artist’s career.
Inuit Art 2011 Engagement Calendar

About 1,200 miles north of Toronto, the community of Cape Dorset on Dorset Island is home to a multigenerational community of gifted graphic artists. Their cooperatively owned printmaking studios have been in continuous operation since 1959, producing unique, captivating, and powerful images. Thirty-two Inuit prints adorn this calendar’s colorful pages. The calendar also includes a brief introduction to the art of Cape Dorset; fifty-seven weekly grids and thirteen full-page monthly grids; double-page spreads of 2011 and 2012 yearly grids; a list of international holidays; a world time zone map; a 2012 year planner with US, UK, and Canadian holidays; pages for notes; and a page for personal information
