My favorite book on bookselling : Rebel Bookseller – How to Improvise your own indie store and beat back the chains. Mainly deals with new shops but there was plenty of first hand knowledge from writer Andrew Laties. This book came out in 2005 the year I started the shop and I go back to it all the time. I think his ideas can be applied to anyone wanting to run a business.

Emily Carr (Canadian, 1871–1945), considered the premier painter of Canada’s Pacific Coast, focused her work on the British Columbia wilderness and the cultural artifacts of the First Nations people. After training in San Francisco and Europe, Carr began painting in Vancouver; years later, at age fifty-six, she returned to northern British Columbia and began producing the works for which she is best known. The twelve paintings in this calendar offer a wide-ranging overview of this extraordinary artist’s career.
